Mystery Monster from Micro Lab

The first day of Microbiology class lab–and look at this Mystery Monster that appeared on a slide! It came from the slime on the floor of our greenhouse at Kenyon College. A student in the lab filmed it under the microscope.

What do you think it is? Any ideas?

  1. Reminds me of a rotifer, but I am not entirely sure…

  2. omigod that’s gross–look’s like scifi monster of some kind–don’t let it attach to your spinal cord!!

  3. I’ve heard two possibilities: waterbears, and rotifers. I think rotifer is a good bet, especially with the forked tail:

They are said to be voracious predators.
